“இந்தக் காலத்தில் தமிழ்க் கவிதைகளைப் புத்தகமாக வாங்கி யாராவது படிக்கிறாங்களா?"
இந்தக் கேள்வியைக் கேட்ட என் மனைவி எங்கள் இருவரின் முதல் முகச் சந்திப்பிற்கு முன்பே என் எழுத்தை இரசித்ததோடு இல்லாமல்,அவர்கள் திடமான நெஞ்சத்தாலும், இதயம் தொட்ட அன்பாலும் என் கவிதைகளின் நாடியாகவும் பொருள் பொதிந்த அர்த்தமாகவும் ஆகியவர்.
“இந்தக் கேள்வி எனக்கும் இருந்ததும்மா! பல நண்பர்கள் பல வருடங்களாக என்னைப் புத்தகம் வெளியிடச் சொல்லிக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். மிக இளகிய இதயமும் உதவும் உள்ளமும் கொண்ட சுதாகரன் என்று ஒரு நண்பர் உள்ளார். முதன்முதலாக நியூயார்க்கில் அவரைச் சந்தித்தேன். அவரைப் போல, ஆழமான தமிழ் ஆர்வம் உள்ள நிறைய உள்ளங்கள் உண்டு. ஒவ்வொரு முறை அவர்களிடம் நான் பேசும்போது அவர்கள் புத்தகம் வெளியிடச் சொல்லி அன்புக் கோரிக்கை விடுக்கிறார்கள். சரி, செய்து விடலாம் என்று முடிவு செய்து விட்டேன்” என்று பதில் சொல்லி நினைவுகளுக்கு அப்பால் சென்றேன். நெஞ்சமெல்லாம் இனிமை, உவகை. என் பறக்கும் மனதிற்கு வழிகாட்டியாகவும், என் மனதின் நிற்காச் சக்தியை, இன்றியமையாத புவியீர்ப்புச் சக்தியைப் போல் ஈர்த்து, எளிய கேள்விகளால் சரியான திசையில் செலுத்த உதவும் என் வாழ்க்கைத் துணைவியால், என் உறவுகளின் ஆழத்தையும், நட்புகளின் வசந்தத்தையும் நான் உணர்ந்த இன்னொரு தருணம் இது.
தமிழ்மொழியால் அறிமுகமாகி, அன்பாலும், பலருக்கு உதவி வாழும் நற்பண்பாலும் இணைந்த நண்பர்களுக்கும், வர இருக்கும் உறவுகளுக்கும் வணக்கம் சொல்லி ஆரம்பிக்கிறேன் இந்த முயற்சியை.
